A common issue for salon owners is getting staff to represent your brand exactly as you would, this can be difficult as they’re obviously not as invested as yourself but there are ways we can help to make sure staff feel motivated to help us achieve our goals and increase profits.
Maintain a positive attitude at all times towards your staff and clients.
Don’t let negative talk leak in. Always speak about other staff members and clients as you would wish your employees to do. Lead by example and maintain a positive culture. Remember to say ‘thank you’.
Make everyone responsible for their own column.
Explain how the figures work. They might think they have customers so all is good, but explain what you need to turn a profit and incentivise your staff to help exceed those targets so you can both benefit. 3 x wages is a good target for a column to be
Create a great salon culture.
Ultimately the vibe of your business is down to you. Some people are naturally good at this but most of us need to work on ourselves to keep up the motivation and keep pushing forward to improve. Surround yourself with inspiration, work on it. Look for a mentor if that helps, someone to bounce ideas off. Being a salon owner can be lonely, don’t burden your staff with worries, create a positive atmosphere in which you can all grow.
Take time out as a team
A team day will help to let personalities come through outside the work environment. This is neutral ground where employees can feel more relaxed and is a great way to bond. A few ideas include; Spa Day, Escape Room, 5k Charity event or a Meal Out.
