The rise of social media is fuelling the increase in demand for skincare treatments. People see “tweakments” online – and have a greater desire to have their own. This increase in demand is a great opportunity for skincare therapists to enter the market, creating a cycle of supply and demand. This is all facilitated by social media. As a result, social media is an excellent place to market skin treatments for potential clients to see.  So how can you ethically promote skin treatments on social media?

Dispel Myths & Misinformation with Education

When discussing treatments, make sure clients have a full understanding of what will happen. Is there any downtime or potential risks? What can they hope to achieve? Who are the treatments suitable for? Transparency and education allows potential clients to make informed decisions and gets rid of the myths.

Be Mindful of Vocabulary & Emphasise Self Acceptance

Market your treatments with sensitivity. Specific demographics may have body image or mental health concerns. Emphasise self acceptance when promoting your treatment.

Be Clear about Realistic Results & Manage Client Expectations

Use real ‘before and after’ images to show possible results.  Describe the treatments using language that gives an accurate impression of potential outcomes. Don’t give false impressions about how effective the treatment is. You don’t want to create unrealistic expectations.

Get Permission to Post

Remember that if you are a SkinBase therapist, you can use ‘before and after’ images from the Transformation of the Year competition. Entrants must give explicit permission for their images to be used when entering. If clients do not want their images shared, make sure they stay confidential.

Set High Standards & Values

Have values such as transparency, honesty, and respect both online and offline. This integrity should run through your day-to-day actions and online marketing.

Ask for Client Feedback

The best way to ethically promote skin treatments is to find out how clients are feeling.  Encourage your clients to express their opinions and engage in meaningful conversations with you. Listen and respond to any feedback – positive or negative. Any complaints or negative opinions should be addressed quickly to resolve the issue and maintain trust.

Ethically Promote Skin Treatments

It is possible to ethically promote skin treatments. It is important to consider the value and quality of your messaging. Aim to be inclusive and have positive conversations about diversity. Use appropriate words and phrases – and always focus on self-acceptance.
